Media Player
Play YouTube, audio, and video in PrimeTask's universal Picture-in-Picture player that keeps playing wherever you go.
PrimeTask has a built-in media player that floats on top of the app and keeps playing as you work. Start a YouTube video in a task note, an audio file on a PrimeFlow canvas, or a video clip in a project note - it stays with you when you switch Spaces, move between pages, or open a completely different part of the app.
It is the same player everywhere. One place to watch, listen, and control playback without breaking your flow.
The player follows you across the app
What's playing does not stop when you navigate away. You can start a video on one page, keep it visible, and finish work on another.

What you can play
- YouTube videos - from links pasted into notes or from PrimeFlow YouTube nodes.
- Audio files - from PrimeFlow Audio File nodes.
- Video files - from PrimeFlow Video File nodes.
Where media can start from
The floating player can be launched from several places in PrimeTask:
- Task notes - YouTube videos embedded in task notes or descriptions. See Task Notes.
- Project notes - YouTube videos embedded in project notes. See Project Notes.
- Task cards - YouTube previews on a task card.
- PrimeFlow canvases - YouTube, Audio File, and Video File nodes. See PrimeFlow Media and Link Nodes and PrimeFlow File and PDF Nodes.
Wherever you see a media embed or a media node, use its player action to send it to the floating player.
PrimeFlow media and file nodes require Pro
YouTube, Audio File, and Video File nodes in PrimeFlow are part of the Pro tier. The player itself is available on every PrimeTask license. See License Settings.
Playback keeps going wherever you go
Once the floating player is open, it stays visible across the app. Playback continues when you:
- Switch to another Space.
- Move between Tasks, Projects, Dashboard, Calendar, CRM, and Settings.
- Leave the current PrimeFlow canvas or switch to another canvas.
- Open modals, slide panels, and wizards.
This lets you keep a reference video open while writing a note, listen to audio while clearing tasks, or follow a tutorial while trying the feature yourself.
Player controls
From the player you can:
- Play or pause.
- Scrub the timeline to move backward or forward.
- Adjust volume.
- Loop the current item so it plays again when it ends.
- Enter fullscreen for video.
- Minimize the player to a compact bar.
- Close the player to stop playback.
Minimize and expand
When you want more screen space, minimize the player. The compact player keeps playback going and still shows basic controls. Expand it again when you want to watch.
One item at a time
The player plays one item at a time. Starting new media replaces what's currently playing. There is no queue or playlist - pick the item you want next when you're ready.
Things worth knowing
Desktop only
PrimeTask ships on macOS and Windows. The media player is part of the desktop app.
The player lives on top of everything
The floating player stays visible over notes, canvases, modals, and side panels. It won't be hidden by another screen in PrimeTask.
Closing the player stops playback
Closing the floating player ends playback of the current item. Send the media to the player again to resume.
Local audio and video come from PrimeFlow
Audio and video files start from PrimeFlow Audio File and Video File nodes. YouTube works from notes, task cards, and PrimeFlow YouTube nodes.
Common questions
"Does playback really keep going when I switch Spaces or change pages?"
Yes. The floating player sits on top of the app and keeps playing as you move around. You can switch Spaces, open another page, or leave PrimeFlow, and playback continues.
"Can I queue multiple items to play next?"
No. PrimeTask's media player plays one item at a time. Start the next item when you're ready, and it replaces what's currently playing.
"Can I play local audio or video files?"
Yes, from PrimeFlow. Place an Audio File or Video File node on a canvas and send it to the player. YouTube plays from notes, task cards, and PrimeFlow YouTube nodes.
"Is the media player part of Pro?"
The player itself is available on every PrimeTask license. PrimeFlow YouTube, Audio File, and Video File nodes require Pro. See License Settings.
"How do I stop playback?"
Close the floating player. Playback stops and the player is dismissed. Open it again from any supported media to resume.
"Can I use the player while in Focus Mode?"
Yes. The player keeps playing while you work anywhere in PrimeTask.
