PrimeFlow Mind Map Nodes
Use PrimeFlow mind map nodes to map ideas, branch topics, create summaries, and convert actionable ideas into real tasks.
Mind map nodes help you start with an idea before it becomes structured work. Use them for brainstorming, project planning, problem solving, research maps, product thinking, meeting planning, and early-stage workflows.
When an idea becomes actionable, a mind map node can be converted into a real PrimeTask task.
Mind maps are available on Standard and Pro
The PrimeFlow feature matrix lists mind maps for both Standard and Pro.

Mind map node types
PrimeFlow includes these mind map node types.
| Node | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Central Topic | The root idea, problem, project, question, or theme |
| Main Topic | Primary branches from the central topic |
| Sub Topic | Details under a main topic or another sub topic |
| Floating Topic | Independent ideas that are not attached to the main structure yet |
| Summary | A summarized note connected to a topic or added as a standalone summary node |
Add mind map nodes
You can add mind map nodes from the PrimeFlow node library.
Step 1
Open PrimeFlow.
Step 2
Open the node library.
Step 3
Open Mind Mapping.
Step 4
Add Central Topic, Main Topic, Sub Topic, Floating Topic, or Summary.
For all node entry points, see Adding Nodes in PrimeFlow.
Use mind map templates
Mind map templates create ready-made topic structures.
Templates include:
- Blank
- Standard Mind Map
- Project Planning
- Brainstorming
- Problem Solving
Templates create topic nodes and connections. They do not create task records by themselves.
For template details, see PrimeFlow Mind Map Templates.
Templates are starting points
Rename the topics and convert only the items that should become tracked tasks.
Edit a mind map node
Double-click a mind map node to edit its text.
You can also right-click a mind map node and choose Edit Node.
Mind map labels are useful when they stay short and clear. Use separate notes, tasks, files, or documentation nodes when an idea needs more detail.
Add child and sibling nodes
You can build the structure with the keyboard or the right-click menu.
From the keyboard: select a mind map node, then press Tab to add a child topic underneath it, or Return (Enter on Windows) to add a sibling topic beside it at the same level. The new topic opens ready for you to type its name. The Central Topic has no siblings, so Return on it adds a child instead.
From the right-click menu: right-click a mind map node and use Add Child Node when the new idea belongs underneath the current node, or Add Sibling Node when it belongs beside the current node at the same level.
When adding a child:
- A Central Topic creates a Main Topic child.
- Other mind map nodes create Sub Topic children.
PrimeFlow connects the new node to the source node automatically.
Map at the speed of thought
Select a topic, press Tab or Return, type the name, and keep going. You can lay out a whole branch without reaching for the mouse.
For right-click behavior, see PrimeFlow Right-Click Menus.
Duplicate or delete a mind map node
Right-click a mind map node and choose Duplicate Node to create another copy.
Choose Delete Node to remove it from the canvas.
Delete removes the selected mind map node
If the idea still matters, duplicate it or convert it to a task before deleting.
Create a Summary node
Right-click a mind map node and choose Summary.
PrimeFlow creates a summary-style floating topic near the selected node and connects it back to that topic.
Use Summary nodes when you want to capture:
- A conclusion
- A decision
- A short explanation
- A next-step summary
- A recap of several related branches
Mind map Summary is different from the canvas multi-node Summary action. Multi-node Summary appears from the canvas right-click menu when more than one node is selected, and it creates an amber sticky-note-style Summary connected to each selected node.
For the multi-node Summary action, see PrimeFlow Right-Click Menus.
Convert a mind map node to a task
Right-click a mind map node and choose Convert to Task.
PrimeFlow creates a real task using the mind map node label as the task name. The node becomes linked to that task, and existing canvas connections are preserved.
The new task uses the current Space's default task status and default priority.
For task creation details, see Creating Tasks. For task statuses and priorities, see Custom Statuses & Priorities.
Convert to Task creates tracked work
After conversion, the idea is no longer only a canvas topic. It is connected to a real task you can manage in Tasks.
Work with task-linked mind map nodes
After a mind map node is linked to a task, the right-click menu can show:
- Remove Task Link
- Mark Todo
- Mark In Progress
- Mark Done
Use these actions when you want to keep working from the canvas without switching to the full task view.
Open the task details when you need full task fields such as notes, attachments, subtasks, dependencies, custom fields, time tracking, or scheduling.
For the full task record, see Task Details Page.
Change mind map node color
Right-click a mind map node and use Color.
Available choices are:
- Default (Theme)
- Red
- Orange
- Yellow
- Green
- Blue
- Purple
- Pink
- Indigo
Use Default (Theme) when you want the node to follow the current PrimeFlow Color Theme again.
For theme behavior, see PrimeFlow Color Themes.
Mind map nodes and connections
Mind map nodes use normal PrimeFlow connections.
Connections are created automatically when you add child nodes, sibling nodes with a parent, or summary nodes. You can also create or edit connections manually.
For connection settings, see PrimeFlow Connections and Edges.
Mind map nodes and groups
Use groups when a mind map becomes part of a larger canvas.
For example, you can group:
- Brainstorming ideas
- Problem causes
- Solution options
- Project planning topics
- Meeting outcomes
For group behavior, see PrimeFlow Groups.
Mind map nodes and Auto Layout
Auto Layout can help clean up a mind map after you add more branches.
Use Radial for central-topic maps, Hierarchical for planning structures, and Horizontal when the map should read from left to right.
For Auto Layout details, see PrimeFlow Auto Layout.
Mind map nodes and FlowMode
FlowMode requires Pro.
On Pro, mind map nodes can be added to a FlowMode Journey. This is useful when you want to guide someone through a brainstorm, project plan, research map, or problem-solving structure.
For Journey behavior, see PrimeFlow FlowMode.
Mind map nodes and export
Mind map nodes, Summary nodes, connections, groups, and visible task-linked nodes are included when you export a PrimeFlow canvas as PNG, WebP, or JPEG.
For export details, see PrimeFlow Export.
Standard and Pro behavior
Mind maps are available on Standard and Pro.
Standard includes Central Topic, Main Topic, Sub Topic, Floating Topic, Summary nodes, mind map templates, task conversion, right-click mind map actions, color overrides, connections, groups, Auto Layout, and export.
Pro adds Pro workflows that can include mind map nodes, such as FlowMode Journeys and Pro node families on the same canvas.
For the full tier map, see PrimeFlow Standard vs Pro.
Things worth knowing
Mind maps are not tasks until converted
A mind map topic is an idea node. It becomes tracked work only when you choose Convert to Task.
Task conversion keeps the canvas useful
When you convert a mind map node to a task, the canvas node stays in place and existing connections are preserved.
Status actions use your Space's task workflow
Task status actions follow your Space's configured default and complete statuses.
See Custom Statuses & Priorities.
Summary nodes are floating topic nodes
Summary nodes are special summary-style floating topics. Use them to capture conclusions or decisions without changing the main branch structure.
Templates do not create task records
Mind map templates create topic nodes. Convert specific topics to tasks when you want those ideas tracked in Tasks.
Common questions
"Are mind map nodes Pro-only?"
No. Mind map nodes are available on every PrimeTask license.
"Do mind map templates create tasks?"
No. Templates create topic nodes and connections. Use Convert to Task when a topic should become a real task.
"What happens when I convert a topic to a task?"
PrimeFlow creates a real task using the topic label, links the canvas node to that task, and preserves existing canvas connections.
"Can I change task status from a mind map?"
Yes. After a mind map node is linked to a task, its right-click menu can show task status actions.
"Can I use mind map nodes in FlowMode?"
Yes, on Pro. Add mind map nodes to a FlowMode Journey when you want a guided walkthrough.
