What's New
See what's changed in the latest PrimeTask release, check for updates, and - on Pro - choose whether to receive early beta builds.
The What's New settings card is where you see which version of PrimeTask you're running, what's new in it, whether there's an update available, and the full changelog for every prior release. It's also where Pro users switch between the Stable update channel and the Beta channel.
If you just want to know what was added in the latest version or whether you need to update, this card has everything you need on one screen - no browser trip, no external release notes page.
Updates are free for every PrimeTask license
New versions of PrimeTask are included with every license at no extra charge. There's no subscription to keep updates flowing - you own the version you bought, and every update that ships while you're using it is yours to install whenever you like.

Things worth knowing
The current version and what's in it
The top of the card shows the version you're running and, if there's one available, a short list of the most recent release's highlights - the handful of features or fixes worth calling out. It also shows when the current version was released so you can tell at a glance how old (or fresh) your install is.
If you're running a non-Stable build - dev, beta, or trial - the card adds a small channel indicator next to the version number so you can always tell which kind of build you have.
Checking for updates
PrimeTask doesn't nag you about updates. When you want to check for a new version, click Check for Updates on the card. The card runs a quick check and shows you one of three results:
- "You're running the latest version" - nothing to do.
- "Update Available: v…" - a newer build is out. A banner appears with the new version number and a View Update button that opens the update details.
- "Unable to check for updates" - the check couldn't complete (usually because you're offline). Try again once you're back online.
The card also shows when the last check ran, so you can tell whether you've checked recently without having to run another one.
Installing an update
When the card shows an update is available, the View Update button opens the update modal with full release notes, the version number, the channel, and a download action. From there, PrimeTask handles the download and installation - you don't have to open a browser, visit a website, or hunt for the right installer. The next time you launch PrimeTask, you're on the new version.
Back up before a major update
For routine patch updates there's nothing to worry about - your data stays exactly where it was. For major updates (new minor versions with big feature additions), running a quick backup first is a good habit. Open Data Management and make a one-click backup before you install.
Update channels - Stable and Beta
PrimeTask has two update channels:
- Stable - the tested, widely-released versions. This is the default channel for every PrimeTask license and what we recommend for most people.
- Beta - early access to new features and fixes before they land in Stable. Features on the Beta channel are in active development and may change, add options, or behave slightly differently from release to release.
Beta channel access is part of your Pro license benefits. On Pro, the What's New card has a channel toggle where you can pick Stable or Beta at will. When you switch, the next Check for Updates checks your new channel and offers the matching build. See License Settings to upgrade.
Beta feedback matters
If you switch to the Beta channel, you'll occasionally hit behaviour that's still being ironed out. This is the trade-off for early access: you see features weeks or months before everyone else, and your feedback shapes what ships in Stable. If a particular release is too rough for your day-to-day work, you can switch back to Stable at any time and the next update will be the latest Stable build.
The full changelog
The View Changelog button opens a modal with the full release history - every version, every feature, every fix, in one place. It's the same information you'd find on a public release notes page, but built into the app so you don't have to leave PrimeTask to see it. The modal lets you scroll back through earlier releases whenever you want to refresh your memory about when a particular feature landed.
"Latest" confirmation
After a successful check that finds nothing new, the card briefly tags the current version as Latest so you know the check ran and the result was "up to date". This is just a visual confirmation - nothing changes about the version itself. The tag clears on the next check or when you next open the card.
Common questions
"How do I know if I need to update?"
Open Settings → What's New and click Check for Updates. If there's a newer version, the card tells you immediately and gives you a View Update button to install it. If you're already on the latest, the card says so. There's no background nagging - you check when you want to.
"I'm running the Beta channel and something broke. How do I go back to Stable?"
Open Settings → What's New, and in the channel selector click Stable. Your preference saves immediately. The next time you Check for Updates, PrimeTask checks the Stable channel and offers the latest Stable build. Install it and you're back on the tested track. (Your data is unaffected by the channel switch - only the installed version changes.)
"Why can't I see the channel switcher?"
Channel switching (early access to the Beta channel) is part of the Pro license benefits. On Standard, the switcher doesn't appear and you're kept on the Stable channel automatically - which is the safest default and what we recommend for most people. If you want early access to new features, upgrade from License Settings.
"Does updating PrimeTask wipe my tasks, projects, or settings?"
No. Updates replace the app binary, not your data. Your tasks, projects, custom fields, notes, CRM records, Space sync configurations, and preferences all stay exactly where they were before the update. If you're feeling cautious - especially before a big update - a fresh backup via Data Management is a good habit.
"I missed the 'What's New' modal when I launched the app. Can I see it again?"
Yes. Click View Changelog on the What's New card and pick the version you want to read about. Every release's notes are kept in the modal, so you can scroll back as far as you want.
"Is updating free forever?"
Yes. Every PrimeTask license includes free updates for the version you bought - there's no subscription fee to keep receiving new versions. Future major-version upgrades may be offered separately, but all updates within your purchased version series are yours to install at no extra cost.
"What does the channel badge next to my version number mean?"
If you see DEV, BETA, or TRIAL next to your version, you're running a non-Stable build of that kind:
